UK: Footballer blew 7K a week on gambling

24 August 2009

ENGLAND -- As reported by the Sun: "Soccer star Kevin Kyle yesterday revealed the secret gambling addiction that cost him his £7,000-a-week wages.

"The Kilmarnock striker admitted he would wager on 'anything that moved' when he was in the grip of the obsession which almost ruined his career.

"His betting habit began at the age of just 13 - and the former Scotland star believes it cost him a career in England's Premier League.

"...Kyle, from Stranraer - who lives with girlfriend Lynn in Cumbernauld - said gambling totally took over his life when he suffered a serious hip injury in 2004 while at Sunderland that stopped him playing for two years.

"...He did not seek professional help until Wolves manager Mick McCarthy refused to give him a contract at the end of a loan spell last year..."
