UK: Crackdown on foreign internet gambling operators coming

14 January 2011

LONDON, England -- The British Culture Secretary plans to crack down on foreign internet gambling operators, The Daily Mail reported.

Companies based overseas will not be permitted to advertise in Britain, and companies would have to be licensed in Britain under his plans, the report said.

The 2005 Gambling Act relaxed the gambling laws to some extent, but the newer Coalition government wishes to tighten up control and protect vulnerable people from addiction, according to The Daily Mail report.
