UK City Approves Casino Deal19 March 2004UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by This is Devon: "The future of Torbay's tourism received a boost yesterday after councillors backed the industry in a dual vote which will mean a new £10 million casino complex for the resort. And the legendary Fawlty Towers hotel has been saved for the third time after Torbay Council's development control committee once again threw out an application to replace it with homes. "A report by planning officers concluded that the loss of Torquay's Gleneagles Hotel would damage the Asheldon Road area, and that demolition would go against council policy. It added that the proposed 25-apartment residential property would constitute over-development, which would put a strain on amenities, result in the loss of protected trees and have a negative impact on the surrounding conservation area.
