UK Casinos May be Forced Onshore

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the New Media Age: "The Government may end up using strong-arm tactics against casinos to force them to move onshore.

"Hilary Stewart-Jones, a partner at law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner, said that the Gambling Bill currently being considered by Parliament doesn't provide enough incentives for online casinos to move onshore. However, she expects the Government to pressure them to move anyway. .

"…The new regime is likely to allow casinos to advertise in the UK if they are licensed in another territory, even in one that is tax-free. However, any UK casino would have to both pay tax and adhere to advertising guidelines from the Advertising Standards Authority and the Office of Fair Trading. This means that there's little advantage for firms to move to the UK.
