UK Bookmakers Approved for Betting Office

ULVERSTON, United Kingdom – As reported by the North-West Evening Mail:"Two bookmaking brothers have beaten the odds and cleared a major planning hurdle to open a betting office in Ulverston's main shopping street.

"…South Lakeland District Council planners blocked the bid, saying non-retail use at the prominent town centre location would result in an area of dead frontage and detract from the vitality of the shopping area.

"Done Brothers launched an appeal and a government-appointed planning inspector held a public inquiry at the Coronation Hall.

"…Inspector Dannie Onn said the appeal should be allowed and planning permission be granted subject to the condition the premises be restricted to use as a betting shop…"
