U.K. Government Won't Relax Controls on Slots22 September 2004LONDON, United Kingdom – As reported by the Reuters: "The government has crushed the hopes of the gambling industry, saying it will not relax controls on outlawed 'Category A' slot machines in its upcoming gambling bill. "Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell said on Wednesday she wanted to take a cautious approach' to deregulating the industry, especially the high-stakes machines that offer million-pound prizes. "…The machines, which are popular in the United States and mainland Europe, are not permitted in Britain. Once the bill is passed, they will be restricted only to the UK's largest casinos of 5,000 square metres or more…" |
