Two Trials Sought In Casino Robberies

22 August 2000

LAS VEGAS, Nevada –Aug. 22, 2000 --Two men suspected in a string of casino robberies may end up being tried separately.

During a brief court appearance Monday, Deputy Public Defender Drew Christensen told District Judge Kathy Hardcastle that separate trials may be needed because Oscar Cisneros-Sanchez has reportedly made incriminating statements about Jose Vigoa to the police.

Vigoa, 40, and Sanchez, 23, are suspected of robbing the Bellagio in early June and the New York-New York in April. They have also been charged with holdups of armed truck guards making drops at the MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay and Desert Inn.

The pair were arrested June 7 after a federal probation officer identified Vigoa from surveillance video taken during the $160,000 Bellagio heist.

Subsequent searches of their homes resulted in the discovery of a large amount of money and guns, clothing and body armor believed to have been used during the robberies, police said.

The two are tentatively set for trial in November.
