Two Slot Machines Seized From Department Store

ALBUQUERQUE -- Agents with the state Gaming Control Board's enforcement division have seized two slot machines that were on display for sale at an Albuquerque department store.

The board announced Monday that a member of its staff had seen the pair of slot machines on display at Foley's Department Store in Coronado Mall during a weekend shopping trip.

Store manager Brian Brown told agents that the machines had come from Foley's headquarters in Denver and that the Albuquerque store had not sold any of the machines.

The machines, priced at $500 each, were on display with other gambling-related merchandise including poker chip sets. The machines were capable of accepting tokens or quarters.

In New Mexico, possessing or selling slot machines built after 1970 is illegal under the state Gaming Control Act. Only Indian casinos, state-licensed horse tracks and veteran and fraternal clubs may have them.
