Two N.J. brothers plead guilty to poker robbery

27 January 2009

TOMS RIVER, New Jersey -- As reported by the Asbury Park Press: "Two brothers from Englishtown pleaded guilty on Monday to robbing 12 people at a high-stakes poker game in Brick in 2002.

"Kenneth H. Gay, 57, and Lawrence K. Gay, 55, had been granted a new trial because of errors at their first one in 2005. But both pleaded guilty to armed robbery, under a plea bargain, before Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson.

"In addition, both brothers, who each have previous robbery convictions in Monmouth County, pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon by a convicted person.

"Each was previously sentenced to 283 years in state prison following a trial in 2005. But according to the plea bargain reached on Monday, neither is expected to receive more than 12-year prison terms when the brothers are sentenced on March 13.

"The judge will decide at sentencing whether to give them credit for the time the two have already served in prison..."
