Two horses die at Grand National

AINTREE, England -- The Grand National was won this weekend by Neptune Collonges in a tight finish, The Guardian reported.

The event was clouded by the deaths of two horses as a result of injuries during the event, the report said.

Synchronised, winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup, fell during the race and another horse According to Pete also fell at the same fence, the Guardian said.

Both horses were injured at Becher's Brook, a drop fence and there have been calls for such fences to be eliminated, the report noted.
