Turnpike Proposed by Florida Casino28 August 2006HOLLYWOOD, Florida – As reported by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel: "Florida's Turnpike runs tantalizingly close to the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and Resort. "But to the thousands of visitors and employees who descend on the sprawling entertainment complex every day, or to anyone else who lives nearby, the toll road might as well be miles away. "Turnpike officials are proposing a new SunPass-only interchange at Stirling Road to capitalize on the casino's location and provide an alternative to getting on and off the turnpike in the Hollywood area. "…The turnpike doesn't have any funding for the interchange, although turnpike officials hope it will be eligible for federal money. With cash in hand, construction would begin in 2010. "The Seminole Tribe of Florida could put the Stirling interchange on a faster track by paying for part of the construction. In 2003, the tribe put up nearly $16 million to expedite the widening of a one-mile stretch of State Road 7 before the casino opened…" |
