Turning Stone Loses More Conferences7 March 2006NEW YORK – As reported by the Syracuse Post-Standard: "Two more groups have pulled out of conferences at Turning Stone Resort and Casino, citing a directive from the governor banning state employees from attending events there. "After the New York State Building Officials canceled its meeting at the Oneida Indian Nation-owned venue in Verona last month, the state City and District Court Clerks Association pulled out of a four-day conference in April. They were followed by Professional Abatement Contractors of New York, an organization that planned to return for its annual conference in March. "On the agendas of all three conferences were state officials, who backed out after the state's executive branch banned them from 'participating in any activities, meetings or seminars' at Turning Stone. "…In Turning Stone's 13-year history, it never has submitted to local and state oversight. It's not clear why officials have decided to restrict employees now. "…Nation spokesman Mark Emery said the cancellations would hurt both the casino and the economy of surrounding communities…" |
