Turning Stone in liquor license limbo

NEW YORK -- As reported by the Syracuse Post-Standard: "Larger-than-life posters at Turning Stone Resort and Casino say the Lava nightclub will open 'Fall 2007.'

"But without a liquor license, it's not clear if the Oneida Indian Nation will open its latest addition to the growing Turning Stone complex.

"A liquor license application is pending for Lava, but is likely to be doomed by the same reasoning the Liquor Authority gave to deny licenses to the resorts' golf courses: The status of all Oneida nation land is in question.

"...Six applications filed in July, to serve alcohol at clubhouses and in traveling carts on the nation's three golf courses, finally reached a vote of the authority board Oct. 3. The two board members denied all the licenses, saying the status of Oneida nation land is in legal limbo.

"...The Oneidas say it's clear the land sits on a reservation..."
