Turning Stone decision expected this week12 June 2007VERONA, New York -- As reported by New York Observer Dispatch: "A federal government decision expected Thursday will focus on whether Turning Stone Resort and Casino can continue to operate. "The Department of the Interior is reconsidering the 1993 gaming compact signed by the Oneida Indian Nation and then-New York state Gov. Mario Cuomo allowing the Nation to open the casino. "If the department rules the compact is not legal, the casino could be forced to close or make adjustments to make it operate legally. The state and the Oneida Nation were unable this year to agree on how to fix the compact, which was deemed unconstitutional by a state court three years ago because the state Legislature never approved it..." |
