Turfway Park Hires Lobbyist

KENTUCKY– As reported by the Cincinnati Post: "Turfway Park has enlisted a veteran Republican insider to help lobby for expanded gambling and changes to horse racing regulations among other issues in Frankfort and Washington.

"Former Kentucky Republican Party chair Ellen Williams was hired a week ago and already is at work in the 2006 session of the Kentucky General Assembly on behalf of the Florence track.

"She said Monday she is well-versed in politics but new to the horse racing industry.

"…Williams was Republican Party chair for about five years, helping to get Gov. Ernie Fletcher elected in 2003. She served briefly as vice chair of the Kentucky Public Service Commission and most recently as commissioner of the Governor's Office for Local Development.

"…Turfway Park President Robert Elliston said he jumped at the chance to hire Williams…"
