Trump Taj Mahal to add AC icon

27 August 2010

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort has announced that they have signed an agreement to open an outpost of the White House Sub Shop on Spice Road in Trump Taj Mahal in early spring 2011. The Taj Mahal location will be the restaurant's first venture outside of their original location located on the corner of Mississippi and Arctic Avenues, in the city's Ducktown Neighborhood district.

The White House Sub Shop is an Atlantic City dining icon that first opened its doors in 1946 by Anthony Basile along with his aunt and uncle, Basilia and Fritz Sacco and is still run by the same families today. The White House Sub Shop has become world-famous for their Italian (or "Regular") and Cheesesteak subs, as well as over two dozen additional varieties of submarine sandwiches. People from all over the country come to Atlantic City to visit the White House Sub Shop, often waiting in long lines to purchase these tasty sandwiches made with only the highest quality ingredients and served on Atlantic City-style Italian Bread baked in family-owned bakeries in that district.

The walls of the White House Sub Shop are adorned with photos of over hundreds of celebrities who have dined there, including The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Oprah Winfrey, Bill Cosby, Joe DiMaggio and many more. The decor is modest with several booths that are adjacent to the long line of sandwich makers busily filling orders and chatting with customers.

"The White House Sub Shop is an Atlantic City favorite," said Mark Juliano, CEO, Trump Entertainment Resorts. "We are all excited to have this opportunity to bring this venue in to share with our guests and give them a taste of Atlantic City's history and world-famous subs." Juliano added.

Subs will be available in 10" halves, or "wholes" measuring almost two feet long and packed with only the finest quality meats, cheeses and condiments. The subs are moderately priced and available to eat-in or take out.

"We've been approached numerous times by other casinos to bring our product into their venues," commented Mary (Sacco) Conley, owner of White House Sub Shop. "The timing is right and the opportunity to open our second location at Trump Taj Mahal Hotel and Casino seems a natural fit--pairing two Atlantic City icons together in one location." She added. Conley, along with her husband Brian are co-owners along with Genevieve Basile, and are members of the White House Sub Shop's founding families.

The decor of the Trump Taj Mahal location will be reminiscent of the original restaurant, with seating to dine-in or take out. Efforts to duplicate the look of the White House Sub Shop's original location will be considered; from the signage, to the seating—even the famous photographs of celebrities will play a part in capturing the historic feel of the original location.

Many local residents from Atlantic City area have moved away but still make it a must-stop when they return to their roots. White House Subs can also be shipped overnight anywhere in the continental United States.
