Trump Casino Avoids Strike

INDIANA – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: "Trump Casino is the latest of three Lake Michigan casinos to avoid a strike after the company reached a tentative agreement with union officials late Friday. Employees at a fourth Indiana casino may still strike.

"Officials of Unite Here Local 1 are encouraging about 140 housekeepers, bartenders and food service employees at Trump Casino in Gary to approve Friday's agreement. A ratification vote is scheduled Jan. 24.

"The union reached similar agreements with Harrah's East Chicago and Majestic Star Casino in Gary earlier in the week, leaving Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City the only one facing a strike. Officials declined to detail the agreements.

"…Negotiations with Blue Chip were scheduled for Jan. 12, but company negotiators canceled the meeting.

"Blue Chip spokesman Rob Stillwell, who blamed scheduling conflicts for the cancellation, said contract talks will resume Wednesday morning.

"…But Blue Chip's 250 union workers may strike in the meantime…"
