Troubled Track Offered Loan by Troubled Investor23 November 2004VERNON, N.Y. – As reported by the Associated Press: "A Las Vegas investor denied a racing license in New York state has offered to loan $3 million to the struggling Vernon Downs harness track. "However, the president of the harness racing track's parent company, Mid-State Raceway, said investor Shawn Scott's involvement would make it harder for the track to get a license to race next season. "'It certainly raises the question of licensing all over again,' said track president Paul Noyes. 'Mr. Scott has had difficulties getting a license, and here he comes again.' "Scott loaned the struggling track $8.5 million in 2002. He eventually was granted a temporary license by the state Racing and Wagering Board, but in December the board revoked the temporary license. The board forbade Scott to have any involvement in the track…" |
