Tribe Talking to Canal Fulton1 May 2006OHIO – As reported by the Independent: "Canal Fulton Mayor John Grogan said Friday that he's been told by developer Steve DiPietro that the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma is exclusively negotiating with Canal Fulton on plans for a gaming site in the area. "…The mayor reiterated that Canal Fulton would end talks if the tribe used the city as leverage for a deal in Massillon. "…Grogan said that if a land case currently in federal court is settled for the tribe, than the tribe would be allowed by the state to construct a complex which would be '90 percent entertainment and retail and 10 percent gambling.' "The mayor said at first, bingo would be allowed between participants, not the house, and added that a clause exists in a proposed intergovernmental agreement which would allow for slots or casino gambling if it would be approved by the state. "…In Canal Fulton, Grogan said the issue would be discussed May 3 and May 16 during Canal Fulton City Council meetings and decided by the end of the month.
