Tribe runs casino ad campaign20 September 2007CATSKILLS, New York -- As reported by the Connecticut Day: "An Indian tribe attempting to build a casino in the Catskill Mountains with Waterford-based developer Len Wolman will air a radio campaign this week to build support for its gaming venture, which the tribe claims will bring permanent jobs and tax relief to the region. "The Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Indians, based in Wisconsin, has been engaged in a seven-year quest to build a $700 million casino and hotel in New York's Catskills. The project still faces a complicated array of state and federal approvals before work could begin. "The radio campaign, which will run on local stations serving the Catskill region, claims the casino would generate thousands of jobs for Sullivan County, where the Catskills are located, $15 million in annual revenue for the county and up to $200 million for the state. "...The tribe is working with Trading Cove New York LLC, whose principal is Wolman of the Waterford Group. Wolman is also a partner in the proposed Mashpee Wampanoag casino planned for Middleborough, Mass. "Trading Cove New York would develop the casino under a 20-year pact with the tribe, but the tribe would run the gaming complex. The proposal calls for 150,000 square feet of primary gaming space, with 3,000 slot machines and 190 game tables..." |
