Tribe proposes deal to help medical center

CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Santa Rosa Press Democrat: "The Indian tribe planning a casino next to Rohnert Park is proposing to spend millions of dollars to help keep Sutter Medical Center open beyond its scheduled close at the end of the year.

"Greg Sarris, chairman of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, said Monday night 'the tribe has made a commitment and a firm offer to keep the hospital and all emergency services open.'

"Sarris said the Graton Rancheria is not seeking to buy the hospital or give the money directly to Sutter Health, which they expect will leave as announced.

"Instead, the tribe is working with administrators from other Sonoma County hospitals to put another management team in place at the county-owned facility.

"…Sutter reported losing $11 million in 2006.

"…The Graton Rancheria's proposed casino has been stalled while it undergoes federal environmental review…"
