Tribe contests union vote

CONNECTICUT -- As reported by the Connecticut Day: "The Mashantucket Pequot tribe contested the United Auto Workers' winning union vote Monday, alleging misconduct by the UAW, improper voting procedures and a lack of jurisdiction on the part of the federal government.

"Dealers at Foxwoods Resort Casino voted Nov. 24 to pursue a contract by organizing through the UAW by a vote of 1,289 to 852. The challenge is one that could be protracted and wind up in federal court.

"Allegations of misconduct include: ballots that were not multi-lingual, to provide for the diverse nationalities of dealers; union interference by keeping a list of eligible dealers, whether they voted and how; union harassment of eligible voters who did not support organizing, and several other charges..."
