Tribal Quiet About Casino Plans

ILLINOIS – As reported by the Illinois News Tribune: "The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation has purchased 128 acres in Shabbona and plans a press conference at 10 a.m. Tuesday, but tribe officials were tight-lipped this morning when asked to confirm reports the site will be used for a casino.

"As previously reported, the tribal council has submitted a proposal to Gov. Rod Blagojevich to build a casino and resort on 1,280-acres of property it has jurisdiction over in DeKalb County near Shabbona.

"Former spokesman Jim McCarthy said the casino would be a first-rate destination resort with elements of casino gaming and a hotel, but first the council has to determine what the market will bear in that area…"
