Trial Delay Sought in Alleged Gambling Bribery Scheme

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – As reported by the Associated Press: "Top officials connected to a Rhode Island gambling center asked a judge Monday to delay their trial in an alleged bribery scheme until early next year.

"Former Wembley PLC chief executive Nigel Potter, 56, and Daniel Bucci, who has temporarily stepped down as CEO of the Lincoln Park track, are accused of plotting to bribe the law firm of an influential state lawmaker in a bid to obtain more video gambling terminals at the track.

"Defense lawyers have jointly requested an extension to Jan. 15, saying they need more time to gather evidence and interview witnesses. The government favors a speedier trial, according to court documents.

"…Potter will be allowed to travel to Hong Kong to represent the firm in litigation involving a stadium managed by a Wembley subsidiary."
