Treasure Bay Gets Approval

BILOXI, Mississippi – As reported by the Mississippi Sun Herald: "The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources granted a permit to Treasure Bay Casino to move its gambling barge into a man-made basin, upholding an earlier decision on the project.

"`The net public benefit from the project as presented going forward at this time outweighs all adverse affects on coastal wetlands,' the DMR wrote in a ruling issued earlier this week.

"The DMR issued a permit to the Biloxi casino in May, but the decision was appealed by attorneys Gerald Blessey and Reilly Morse, who represent Treasure Bay's landlords, the Mladinich Family Limited Partnership. The Commission on Marine Resources held a two-day hearing in July, listening to arguments from Treasure Bay and the Mladiniches.

"…The Mladiniches have argued that Treasure Bay wants to move in order to get out of lease payments. Engineers representing the landlords testified that the casino could get enough storm protection by building a breakwater…"
