Track official: New table game bill unlikely14 August 2007CHARLES TOWN, West Virginia -- As reported by the Journal: "A Charles Town racetrack official said he thinks Jefferson County's chance for a better table games bill is still slim to none, following an unofficial gaming victory in Kanawha County last weekend. "Of West Virginia's four counties with racetracks, Jefferson County is the only one where voters defeated table games. "...John Finamore, senior vice president of regional operations at Penn National Gaming Inc., which owns Charles Town Races & Slots, said he never thought the West Virginia Legislature would pass a better table games bill for Jefferson County. And now that it appears that Kanawha County voters approved casino-style games at their track, Finamore said he doubts the Legislature would pass another bill for just one county. "...Finamore said the table games legislation took a great deal of work for a number of years, and he thinks representatives from other counties would have little reason to revisit the bill..." |
