Top 10 reasons to attend Cardplayer Lifestyle Mixed Game Festival VI

23 October 2023

The Cardplayer Lifestyle Mixed Game Festival

The Cardplayer Lifestyle Mixed Game Festival

Over the past couple years, Cardplayer Lifestyle founder Robbie Strazynski has broken new ground in the poker world by hosting Mixed Game Festivals. Geared toward attracting low-stakes poker players for mixed game play, it’s been a successful initiative that over five iterations thus far has introduced hundreds of new people to non-Texas Hold’em poker variants.

Hold’em, of course, is a game that’s spread in any and every poker room around the world, whereas mixed game tables, by contrast, are typically only found running in very few poker rooms for high stakes if at all. The Mixed Game Festival flips the script, as it were, featuring multiple tables of players competing at dealer’s choice poker for stakes as low as $4/8 and $8/16, and low three-figure buy-in tournaments.

Strazynski will be hosting the sixth Mixed Game Festival in late November at Resorts World Las Vegas and there’s quite a lot on offer beyond the poker action.
We’ve put together a top 10 list of reasons why you should consider attending and joining the Cardplayer Lifestyle crew at the felt from 26-30 November.

10. For the chance to meet fellow mixed game poker lovers
As popular as poker is around the world, mixed games are obviously a niche within the niche. It’s exceedingly rare to find low stakes mixed games spread in poker rooms. As such, mixed game aficionados don’t often have the opportunity to come together, making the Cardplayer Lifestyle Mixed Game Festival a one-of-a-kind gathering.

You’re guaranteed to meet a bunch of wonderful people whose love for the game is pure, and in all likelihood, you’ll make some lovely new friends.

9. For the free merch, massages, and pizza
Whether you’re up or down at the end of your poker session, every player at Cardplayer Lifestyle’s Mixed Game Festivals ends up feeling like a winner. That’s because there’s always a ton of merchandise that gets handed out over the course of the festivities. From decks of Faded Spade cards to BBO Poker Tables portable mats, to hats, to D&B Poker books, to all sorts of PokerGO swag, players rarely leave empty handed.

Plus, your stomach will be full, too, as there’s a pizza party scheduled to kick off Mixed Game Festival VI at noon on Sunday, 26 November. And if you’re worn out after all that eating, partying and poker playing, they’ll also be doling out some free tableside massages to some lucky randomly selected players.

8. For the chance to see your name in lights
Daily recaps of each Mixed Game Festival get published on Cardplayer Lifestyle and, as of the previous installment this past summer, they’ve begun naming a “PokerCoaching.com Player of the Day,” a trend that’s set to continue at MGF VI.

The poker media site loves sharing stories about players who’ve decided to try mixed games for the first time, who’ve flown in from afar to participate, and who have unique and interesting tales to share. You might be one of those players who gets to see their name in lights (as well as a special gift for being selected).

7. For the first-class poker room experience
Playing host to the Mixed Game Festival for the fourth time, Resorts World Las Vegas is the world’s premiere mixed game poker destination. The 30-table room is staffed by some of the friendliest, most professional dealers in the world, all of whom not only are proficient in dealing pretty much every poker variant on the planet, but who are also guaranteed to greet you with a warm smile when you first take your seat at the felt.

Director of Poker Operations at Resorts World Las Vegas Leon Wheeler is all set to “extend a warm welcome to the Cardplayer Lifestyle’s Mixed Game Festival once more” encouraging players to come for “an engaging week filled with social interaction and exhilarating mixed game poker.”

6. For the other poker tournament they’re staging
If you feel like you’ll need to warm up a little and practice your mixed game poker tournament skills prior to ponying up the $260 buy-in for the grand finale HORSE event, Mixed Game Festival VI also has another $260 buy-in tournament on the schedule, an Omaha 8/Stud 8 mix that’ll start at noon on Monday, 27 November.

The O/E tournament is likely to attract at least a few dozen players and boast a five-figure prize pool. Making a deep run and/or cashing in this tournament will give you all the confidence you need to hopefully have a good chance at scoring that WPT Voyage Prize Package on Thursday, 30 November.

5. For the chance to see and play with poker celebs
A who’s who of poker legends and celebrities have competed at the tables during previous Cardplayer Lifestyle Mixed Game Festivals, including:

Eli Elezra, Norman Chad, Chris “Fox” Wallace, Chip and Karina Jett, Jan Fisher, Miami John Cernuto, Ali Nejad, Joey Ingram, Dylan Linde, Nathan Gamble, Jeff, Platt, Greg Raymer, Linda Johnson, Jonathan Little, Justin Saliba, Ari Engel, Matt Savage, and Brian Hastings.

Many poker fans dream about getting to play with the big-name pros they watch on TV. Playing at a low-stakes dealer’s choice mixed game table presents a thrilling opportunity for you to rub shoulders with some of poker’s greats without having to plunk down $10,000 for a WSOP Main Event buy-in.

4. Because Hold’em is solved; mixed games are not
While the mixed game poker niche is relatively small, it’s certainly growing. As players increasingly sign up for poker training sites to improve at Texas Hold’em, that game variant is getting harder and harder to win at.

Thus, many players are beginning to give mixed games a try. And sure, there are plenty of very experienced mixed game players, but generally speaking – especially at low-stakes tables – the playing field is far more level, with amateur mixed game players less likely to be ridiculously outmatched by their opponents.

3. Because Hold’em is boring; mixed games are fun
While Texas Hold’em might be “the Cadillac of poker,” the game tends to get very repetitive after a while. Endless bouts of waiting punctuated by short bursts of activity might occasionally get your adrenaline going, especially if you win/lose big pots, but for the most part it tends to be “same old, same old”.

Mixed game poker tables, by contrast, tend to be talkative and far more social. The variant being played changes every few hands, constantly keeping players on their toes. Plus, it’s fixed limit betting, so while you might not “make coin,” you’re also unlikely to lose too much if you’re running poorly.

2. For the Chance to win a $5,000 WPT Voyage Prize Package
The World Poker Tour is putting up MGF VI’s grand prize: a WPT Voyage Prize Package, which includes a 7-day cruise for two aboard Virgin Voyages’ Valiant Lady and an $1,100 WPT Prime Main Event seat in that marquee tournament that’ll be taking place aboard said voyage in spring 2024.

If you want a chance at winning that spectacular prize, you’ll want to enter the $260 HORSE tournament, taking place on the final day of Mixed Game Festival VI. If you’re fortunate enough to win, then pack your bags for what’s sure to be an unbelievable experience in the Caribbean.

1. For the newly-happening winter Las Vegas poker scene
Until very recently, it used to be the case that peak Las Vegas poker occurred only during the summer, when the annual World Series of Poker rolled around. While the WSOP is doing better than ever before, the end of the calendar year has become a new second pillar of poker activity in Sin City thanks to the emergence of the World Poker Tour’s World Championship. Over three weeks of fabulous, frenzied poker activity start at the tail end of November, which Mixed Game Festival VI just so happens to splendidly dovetail into. It’s a special kind of atmosphere you won’t want to miss.
