Tinian pins hopes on casinos

TINIAN, North Marianas Islands -- As reported by the — This island, which became famous as a forward base of the American forces during World War II, is pinning its hopes on the establishment of more casinos and hotels to jumpstart its sluggish tourism industry.

"Sen. Jude Hofschneider, R-Tinian, said their island badly needs more hotels and casinos to improve its economy and reduce residents' dependence on government largesse for their needs.

"...At least two more international investors are financing the construction of similar establishments — Bridge Investment Group and Marianas Resort Development Corp. or MRDC.

"...Hofschneider said once new casinos are built on Tinian more tourists are expected to come here..."
