Three Michigan Cities Want Casinos

MICHIGAN – As reported by the Globe St.com: "Flint has become the third southeastern Michigan city to begin speaking openly about the possibility of opening a casino within its borders as a way to boost municipal tax revenues. Last week, the Flint City Council approved a plan to put a referendum before voters in August to approve a possible casino. Voters in Romulus, in suburban Wayne County, approved such a measure in December.

"In Mount Clemens, no vote is scheduled, but Mayor Quinnie Cody says a casino may be the perfect complement to the Macomb County seat's already bustling nightlife.

"…The Sault Ste. Marie tribe of Chippewa Indians has the rights to place a casino in either Romulus, Flint or Monroe under a land claims agreement agreed to by former Gov. John Engler shortly before he left office in December 2002…"
