Thousands Attend Mohegan Job Fair14 September 2006CONNECTICUT – As reported by the Citizens' Voice: "Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs doesn't have a single slot machine open, yet, but the company is already drawing a crowd. Thousands of people went through the turnstiles at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza on Tuesday for the casino's job fair, which advertised 430 new positions. As many as 10,000 people are expected to attend the two-day fair, which runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, Human Relations Director Kawel Laubach said. "Applicants from the job fair will fill positions needed for the casino's first phase — 1,080 slot machines to be added to the harness racing track before the end of the year. "Most of the jobs will be filled locally, but some of the highest-paying positions will not. "The Information Technology Department — one of the highest paying departments — will hire about 25 people, IT operations director Gary Cherwinski said. Only about 10 entry-level jobs are expected to be hired locally, Cherwinski said. "…Most of the jobs, however, do not require previous experience. The Security Department, for example, is expected to hire about 50 people. Customer service skills are more important than security experience, Department Manager Matthew Magda said…" |
