This Week in Gambling: Casinos rise from the pandemic

8 July 2021

It's a great week for gambling news. Not only are records being broken, but gambling across America is growing from casinos to sports betting to online games. We also have a new game review to share, and gambling news with an anniversary to celebrate.

We have gambling news from all over the U.S., casinos are recovering from the pandemic with record numbers! Nevada casinos have come roaring back after the Coronavirus pandemic had them closed for a significant time last year. Now, Las Vegas casinos have set a record in May by winning $1.23 billion. It’s the highest single-month win in the state’s history, blowing past a $1.17 billion record set in October 2007. In May, 2.9 million people visited Las Vegas casino, according to the Convention and Visitors Authority, an increase of nearly 12% from April.

And with the pandemic (hopefully) in the rear view mirror, other gambling news finds several forms of gaming across America are starting to come back to life. In Mississippi, for instance, casinos are up over 20% from last year, bringing in over $1 billion. Meanwhile in Kentucky, gambling revenue has already surpassed last year’s fiscal totals by bringing in $1.45 billion. All told, Kentucky gambling is over 35% ahead of this time last year.

And as gambling across America builds speed once again, Tennessee did see a slight dip in their sports betting revenue for the month of May. That is not totally unexpected for betting on sports, as May is not a big month for sporting events.
