The Reel Life: That ice ain't nice edition

23 October 2014

Remember when ice used to be just frozen water? Remember when it was free? Those were the good old days.

But of course, there's always some genius who figures out a way to sell people stuff they already had for free. See: bottled water. At the next level is "hand-cut rock," a form of "artisinal ice" used in a certain cocktail at a Washington, D.C. restaurant called Second State.

Basically, if you order a rye whiskey at this restaurant, you have to pay an additional $1 fee to have a gigantic ice cube sitting in your drink. You can't order your drink "on the rocks." You order it "on the rock." And you pay for it.

The best part about this story is that there is apparently a market for paying for ice, since the restaurant continues to sell it and get away with it. The Reel Life thinks there has to be some sort of arbitrage opportunity here. Let's open up a restaurant next door and sell the exact same products, but only charge 50 cents for ice cubes. Think of all the business we'll steal!

Of course, the hipsters that probably go to that place and pay $1 for ice would more than likely be willing to pay up to $5. Because the more expensive and ridiculous something is, the more likely that you are doing something exclusive.

Get in the fast lane, Grandma, this bingo game is ready to roll!

Snuggle up by the fire and get ready to take a snowy adventure with Ice Run at Paddy Power Casino.

Ice Run is a five-reel, 25-payline slot that features an Ice Breaker, free spins and an Ice Run bonus round.

When the eskimo symbol appears on reel 3 in center position, all wins are paid and then a wild expands on reel 3, awarding two more re-spins. When the symbol lands anywhere on reels 2, 3 or 4, wins are paid and the wild expands, resulting in 1 re-spin. This is the Ice Breaker feature.

Three or more igloo symbols anywhere on the reels results in 10 free games with all wins tripled. Players can hit the Ice Breaker feature during free spins, and those wins are tripled, too.

When the dog symbols appears on reels 1 and 5, the Ice Run bonus is activated. Sled down the hill and try to hit as many of the seven snowmen as possible, Hit three or more to win cash, and then enter one out of three igloos for a random multiplier.

So cool off with an Ice Run at Paddy Power Casino.
