The Reel Life: Schadenfreude alert

23 October 2008

If you look up schadenfreude in the dictionary, you'll see that it means the satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune. Normally, we here in The Reel Life try to be above schadenfreude (even though it's a really cool word). But when it comes to the misfortune of criminals, we feel its OK to indulge occasionally. And this is one of those weeks.

According to the Colorado Daily and KMGH Daily, an unknown man walked into a gas station, picked up a Snickers candy bar and put $2 on the counter to pay for it.

When the clerk collected the money, the robber pulled out a knife and attempted to rob the gas station. The clerk quickly closed drawer of the cash register and backed away. Then the robber failed to get the register open by punching some buttons and fled the scene -- without any money or the Snickers bar.

That's right. The thief actually lost money trying to rob the gas station. And that's why schadenfreude is the Reel Life's word of the week.
