The Reel Life: Neck tie suspension edition

14 February 2013

The Reel Life didn't have a school uniform growing up, but if we did, we probably would have tried to bend the rules as much as we could to express our sense of teenage rebellion. So we weren't shocked to hear that a 13-year-old boy in Essex was suspended when he decided not to wear the school-issued necktie in favor of his own. But we were surprised to learn he was suspended for wearing a real tie with a Windsor knot instead of the clip-on that was given to him.

Max Richmond thinks it's "hard to be taken seriously" wearing a clip-on tie, and he's right. So he got an actual necktie with an identical pattern and wore it to Colne Community School. When his devious change to the school uniform was noticed, he was given one day of in-school suspension as punishment. The school's policy is apparently for the "health and safety" of the student body.

If the Reel Life was running a school, students wouldn't be required to wear neckties. But if they did, they would have to wear real ones and not clip-ons.
