The Reel Life: Brain-meltingly hot edition

12 July 2018

Recently, in absolutely unsurprising science news, researchers at Harvard determined that not having air conditioning in the middle of an intense heatwave makes college students dumber.

While we are few years on from being a college student, our experience with New England summers prompts us to advance an additional hypothesis: Muggy, sweaty, intense New England heatwaves make researchers at Harvard dumber, if they couldn't think of something less obvious to study than whether or not sitting in a building built to retain heat, when it's 95 degrees out at 75% humidity, might make it hard to focus on doing calculus or whatever.

Readers in less volatile or more tropical climes might be making fun of us about now, like "95 isn't that hot!" We'd like to reiterate: Every structure in New England is built to retain heat, because we have eight months of nor'easter-ridden winter every year, compared to only two months of face-meltingly humid summer.

Oh, and for our European readers who think 95 degrees sounds like fires-of-hell hot, because you're used to using centigrade: 95 degrees Fahrenheit is 35 degrees centigrade. And you're entirely correct about the fires of hell thing.

If you're in any kind of heatwave situation right now, which apparently the entire globe is (apparently it's 90 degrees in Siberia?): Stay cool, stay safe, and drink lots water. More water than that. No, still not enough, keep drinking.

Get in the fast lane, Grandma, this bingo game is ready to roll!

Slotland has just unveiled Gladiator Games, an epic new Roman-themed slot game with an incredible bonus round where players choose a gladiator to fight for their trophy chest and then select his maneuvers as he goes to battle. The unique casino is giving players a $10 freebie to try the new desktop game (scaling up to $27 for Gold VIP players) and offering a choice of generous introductory deposit bonuses with various wagering requirements.

“Wait till you get to the bonus game in this one!” said Slotland manager Michael Hilary. “It’s up to you to tell your gladiator how to fight so he can win your chest full of gold coins, which you can use to play even more.”

Gladiator Games is a five-reel video slot with 30 pay lines and bets from $.05 to $2 per line. The scatter is a gold coin that fills up the Trophy Chest. An animated Lion symbol is Wild and when it appears all other lion symbols on the reels also become wild. Maximum line payout is 1000x for five Caesars.

As they spin the reels, players fill their trophy chest with gold coins and collect four pieces of armor for the Roman soldier standing guard. When the soldier’s armor is complete, they’re taken to a Roman arena where the Gladiator follows their directions as he fights to win the coins in the Trophy Chest.
