The Reel Life

20 August 2009

Last week The Reel Life reported on a disturbing case of board game violence. We are happy to report that we haven't been arrested since reporting this news, even though we've played Connect Four, Clue and Monopoly in the last seven days. The same can't be said of an Orem, Utah man who got a little testy over a game of UNO.

According to The Salt Lake Tribune, a 58-year-old man was arrested for aggravated assault after allegedly smacking a 64-year-old woman during a game of UNO during a game that also included his 47-year-old nephew.

The unidentified man was drinking during the game and for some reason became agitated.

The man then smacked the woman over the back of her head. When his nephew asked him to stop, "the man reached up to do it again," according to Orem policeman Gary Downey.

The Tribunesaid that when "the nephew was walking out the door to leave, his uncle shoved him in the back. (He) turned to see his uncle standing in the doorway holding a large kitchen knife."

The man was arrested and charged with "aggravated assault, as well as for three outstanding warrants of aggravated assault, simple assault and driving under the influence."

The Reel Life needs a few more details on this game before we can make an accurate judgment. Was it draw one or draw until a playable card shows up? Did someone in this game forget to say UNO? Was the man agitated because the woman kept playing the reverse card on him? We may never know.

"It was so exciting! I picked box 12, and in the end, I had just 20p and the jackpot. There was no way I'd strike a deal! It was all about the lucky dust!"

So congratulations to Paul M, who became a millionaire in a moment with Deal or No Deal!
