The Racing and Gaming Conference at Saratoga announces agenda

15 April 2022

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Racing and Gaming Conference at Saratoga has opened registration and posted the agenda for the three-day event, which takes place 15-17 August 2022. The prestigious conference will bring together gaming and racing industry leaders, academics, elected officials, lawyers, regulators, and racing patrons to examine the trends, challenges and critical issues facing the racing and gaming industries.

The RGCS has prepared an intensive agenda featuring experts discussing the racing and gaming industries from myriad perspectives. Topics for this year’s agenda include:

- Downstate Casino Expansion: What’s Next?
- Responsible Gaming: Are Programs and Funding Keeping Pace with Industry Growth?
- State Lotteries – Finding Avenues for Growth
- The Rise (or Scourge) of Unregulated Gaming Machines
- Gaming Regulation in the Digital Age: Are “Analog” Regulations and Regulators Sufficient to Police the Digital Gaming Market?
- Online Casinos: How Will Online Gaming Legalization Across the Nation Play Out in the Next Five Years?
- The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act and the Future of Racing
- Horse Racing, NFTs, and the Metaverse
- Aftercare for Race Horses: Who Pays?
- Fixed Odds and the Future of Horse Betting

This year’s conference will also host two networking events—a Welcome Cocktail Party on Monday night and a charity event at historic Canfield Casino on Tuesday evening. Also, a day at the Historic Saratoga Race Course is planned for Wednesday.

Patrick Brown, co-founder of the Brown & Weinraub law firm in Albany and who serves a member of the Albany Law School, Government Law Center Advisory Board, will serve as conference director. Spectrum Gaming Group, which in 2021 authored the comprehensive gaming market study for the New York State Gaming Commission, will organize the event, to be held at the Hilton located in the historic downtown Saratoga Springs district.

“In 2021, the inaugural Racing & Gaming Conference at Saratoga was a resounding success. As we enter our second year, we hope to build on that success and offer even more value to our participants. l am looking forward to lively discussion among experts in the racing and gaming industry, to meeting new people at our networking events, and enjoying a day at the races with friends, old and new,” Brown said.

The Racing and Gaming Conference at Saratoga began as The Saratoga Institute on Equine, Racing and Gaming Law and for 19 years was produced by the Government Law Center of Albany Law School. In February 2020, the Albany Law School turned over the reins to Brown.
