The 'Masters of Shaolin' Return To the MGM Grand31 August 2000LAS VEGAS, Nevada –(Press Release) -- Aug. 31, 2000 -- Once again, MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, ``The City of Entertainment,'' is proud to present the amazing physical endurance and artistry of China's Shaolin Monks in their second-ever appearance in Las Vegas. The ancient and mystical art of Kung Fu will be presented in a special week-long engagement called 'Masters of Shaolin' in the intimate 650 seat Hollywood Theatre September 20-28. Following their overwhelming success at the MGM Grand in February, the monks are returning to the United States by popular demand. Known internationally for their physical undertakings, the Shaolin Monks rarely leave their secluded monastery in China. During their previous visit to the U.S., the Monks achieved critical acclaim and international media attention through their performances on shows such as ``The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,'' ``The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn,'' and ``The Roseanne Show,'' as well as articles in many national daily newspapers and magazines. The Shaolin Monks have been a part of the Chinese culture and tradition for over 1,500 years and are looked upon as one of the ``treasured jewels of China.'' The monks developed their special martial arts movements to protect the monastery against animals and pirates and to defend the empire against internal and external enemies. During the prime of the Shaolin Monastery 1,300 years ago, there were 1,500 monks living there. Today, the new generation of Shaolin Fighting Monks are reviving the lost art, in addition to developing the Shaolin Kung Fu. Performances for the 'Masters of Shaolin' will be held at 7:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. nightly. Tickets, priced at $42.50 plus tax, are on sale now at any MGM Grand ticketing outlet or by calling MGM Grand Reservations at (800) 929-1111 or (702) 891-7777. |
