Thailand: 3 Regions to be Polled

THAILAND -- As reported by the Nation: ``People from the north, east and south of the country will be asked early next year to vote on whether they want the government to legalise casinos, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said yesterday.

```We will hold a public referendum to find out whether people would like casinos built in their provinces, and assuming a simple majority this government will allow construction of casinos,' he said.

``The government will allow private companies to run entertainment complexes that will include shopping plazas, hotel and casino operations, copying the highly successful casino complex model found in Australia, Malaysia, South Africa and the United States..."
