Thai Authorities Warn Against Holiday Gambling

CHIANG RAI, Thailand – As reported by the TNA News: "Thai police in the northern border town of Mae Sai have imposed strict measures to prevent gamblers disguised as tourists from crossing to Myanmar to gamble in its casinos during a four-day holiday which begins Thursday.

"Pol. Maj. Gen. Jamnong Kaewsiri, Chiang Rai provincial police chief, said the measures included checking the identity of every passenger in passing vans belonging to the casinos.

"The provincial police chief said tourists crossing to Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, from Thai side would not be allowed to carry more than Bt500,000 (more than US$13,000) on their trip…"
