Texas Senator Revives Video Slot Legislation

AUSTIN, Texas – As reported by the Fort Worth Star Telegram: "Even though the Texas House has shot down a proposal to legalize video slot machines at racetracks and on Indian reservations, a state senator filed new legislation Monday that would allow the gambling devices at those places and others, including Dallas' Reunion Arena and Trinity Meadows in Willow Park.

"But another senator renewed her promise to kill any legislation permitting video slots.

"State Sen. Kenneth Armbrister, D-Victoria, said he is building a coalition in the upper chamber to pave the way for video gambling as one element of school finance.

"…State Sen. Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, reiterated her threat to derail the gambling effort by any means at her disposal, including the talking-it-to-death tactic of filibuster…"
