Texas Senator Introduces Gambling District Measure

TEXAS –As reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: "Counties could form special gambling districts where video slot machine venues would be legal if legislation filed Thursday is enacted.

"State Sen. Ken Armbrister, D-Victoria, introduced the measure, one of several gambling initiatives vying to become law as the Legislature grapples with ways to raise money to overhaul Texas' school finance system.

"Armbrister said Senate Bill 1326 would make money for schools and for such projects as road construction, county-funded indigent health care and flood control. Voters in each county would decide whether to allow slot machines.

"…As Texas faces increasing pressure to overhaul the school finance system and pay for ever-expanding public-health needs, lawmakers must raise taxes or find other sources of money, Armbrister said…"
