Texas Commission to Decide on Betting Machines

TEXAS – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Following a demonstration of Magna Entertainment Corp.'s Horse Wizard simplified betting machines, the Texas Racing Commission will decide Thursday whether to allow the machines at Lone Star Park during Breeders' Cup week.

"The machines have the look and feel of slot machines, complete with a video screen and spinning reels, but operate through the pari-mutuel system, as users place $2 show wagers or across-the-board wagers in denominations of $6, $15, $30, or $60 on races from throughout the country.

"…If Lone Star receives approval to install the Horse Wizard machines, then about 30 such machines would operate on the first floor of the grandstand, but Stronach would like to see that number increase into the thousands at each of the Magna tracks…"
