Texas bill faces deadline11 May 2007TEXAS -- As reported by the Statesman: "As the House churned through a 23-page list of bills Thursday, facing a midnight drop-dead deadline for House bills, El Paso Rep. Norma Chavez could only hope she'd bingo on her bingo bill. "The legislation by Chavez, a Democrat, would allow the Tigua Indian tribe to operate bingo games. It would be a consolation prize for the tribe after the House last week defeated Chavez's bid to reopen their casino. "Sitting on Page 19, however, Chavez's bill faced almost certain elimination without debate. "Chavez was not alone. Many House members lost bills Thursday night as time ran out..." |
