Tennessee Ticket Wins $25.5 Million Powerball Jackpot31 March 2005UNITED STATES – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Powerball paid off BIG in multiple ways Wednesday night. Not only was there one winning jackpot ticket worth $25.5 million that was sold in Tennessee, but also there were 21 tickets that won $500,000, and an additional 89 tickets that won $100,000. The jackpot winner will now have to decide between the 29-year, 30-payment annuity, and the cash option worth $13,851,308. The winner will have 60 days after their ticket is validated to make that decision. In addition to the jackpot winner, 306,126 other Powerball players across the nation won a total of almost $21,709,536 million in cash prizes. The winning numbers drawn were 22, 28, 32, 33, 39 and the Powerball was 42. The Power Play multiplier was 5. Eighty-nine tickets matched all 5 white numbers for the $100,000 prize. These tickets were sold in AZ (10), CO (2), CT (2), DC, DE (3), IA (3), ID, IN (8), KS (3), KY (4), LA, MN (4), MO, MT, ND, NE (2), NH (2), NM (3), PA (12), RI (5), SC (6), TN (7), USVI, WI (4), and WV (2). An additional twenty-one players not only matched the 5 white, but also purchased the Power Play option and won $500,000. These tickets were sold in AZ, CT (2), IN (2), LA (1), NH (1), PA (1), SC (8), and TN (5). Thirteen players matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $5,000. Two additional winners of that prize level also purchased the Power Play option, giving them a total win of $25,000! More than 42,490 winning Powerball players multiplied their prize by 5 Wednesday. They were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your Powerball winnings, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier. Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels. Players purchased more than $12.3 million in tickets between Sunday and Wednesday night. The jackpot for the Saturday, April 2 drawing will be $10 million. The lotteries sold more than $2.2 billion in Powerball tickets in FY04. That translates into more than $660 million for worthwhile state projects. Powerball is now played in 27 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. |
