Tennessee Casino Gambling Unlikely, Bredesen says25 February 2004TENNESSEE – As reported by the Tennessean: ``Gov. Phil Bredesen says it is 'virtually impossible' that Tennessee would have casino gambling anytime soon, despite some legislative movement this year to allow casinos in Memphis. ``'We just started a lottery that's not a month old. The issue to extend gambling any further in the state ought to stop right there for five to 10 years, and then let's look at where we are,' Bredesen told reporters yesterday. ``The House State and Local Government Committee is scheduled to take up a resolution today that could be the vehicle. Even if it meets approval, it would take multiple votes of the House and Senate before voters could have their say, at the earliest in 2006…" |
