Tattersall's Pushes to Change Pokies Rules

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Herald Sun: "Pokies giant Tattersall's is leading a charge for more money-grabbing poker machines in Victoria.

"Not content with the 27,500 machines already spinning in 540 pubs and clubs across the state, Tattersall's is one of several major players pushing for extra pokies.

"Tatts and rival gaming machine operator Tabcorp have launched a bid to extend their lucrative pokies stranglehold by another 20 years beyond 2012. In submissions to the Bracks Government's gaming review, the powerhouse gaming companies argue their controversial duopoly guarantees the Government more gaming taxes than any other model.

"Tatts also revealed its vision of suburban super-clubs with up to 250 machines in each venue.

"But other players, including Racing Victoria and a Woolworths-Bruce Mathieson consortium, have hinted the $2.4 billion-a-year industry should be opened up to competitors…"
