Tasmanians Lose $270 Million

TASMANIA, Australia – As reported by the Mercury: "Tasmanians gambled away $270 million (US$ 195.073 millon) last financial year, a new report shows.

"The figure -- described by Anglicare as 'horrifying' -- is contained within the Australian Gambling Statistics, released yesterday by the Tasmanian Gaming Commission.

"The report shows that each Tasmanian over 18 wagered $6447 last year.

"This equated to every adult Tasmanian losing $759, which is $23 more than each adult lost the previous year.

"…Anglicare chief executive Chris Jones said the gambling loss was horrifying and asked what the gaming companies were putting back into the community…"
