Tasmania Casino Strike Closer to Resolution

TASMANIA, Australia – As reported by the Mercury: "An industrial dispute which erupted in the state's first-ever casino strike last weekend appears closer to resolution.

"In a marathon meeting lasting more than eight hours yesterday, Federal Hotels and Resorts and the Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union maintained their differing positions on a pay rise bid but there was some softening of attitude.

"…Casino workers want a five per cent pay rise for each of the next two years. Until yesterday, Federal had offered four per cent. [The union's David] O'Byrne said stop-work meetings of members would be held next week and Federal's revised offer would go to a ballot…"
