Taking Pokies Out Of Clubs Pointless, Says Opposition

AUSTRALIA -- As reported by ABC News online: "The State Opposition says budget figures show that removing 3,000 poker machines across South Australia will achieve nothing.

"Next month nearly 2,200 machines will be pulled from pubs and clubs, with the other 800 to be traded out of the system.

"The Budget shows that revenue from gaming machines is expected to rise for the next two financial years.

"It is not until 2008, when smoking is completely banned in hotels, that tax revenue is predicted to fall.

"...But Gambling Minister Michael Wright told the hearing the State Government wants to see a cut in poker machine revenue..."
